From the desk of Rabbi Maurice

August 2020/Elul 5780

Shalom friends,

What strange times we share. This long season of pandemic has challenged all of us and pushed us into patterns of living that we could not have imagined even a few months ago. As we approach the Jewish New Year and High Holy Days, I invite you to join String of Pearls and me for warm services and rich discussions, during which we’ll be exploring the theme of “Revolutionary Love” on many levels.

Because of the ongoing need for social distancing and public health precautions, services will be virtual (via Zoom) and modular (with 15-minute breaks between each module). Although being together online will feel different from what we're used to, we will still be able to share tradition, prayer, wisdom, music, and community solidarity.

The first service of the season that I will lead is Selichot on Saturday, September 12th from 9 - 10 p.m. Details about Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, including the smaller sections of the various services, discussions, and text studies, are on the home page. You can attend any or all of the days and modules, join in for the parts you most enjoy, take a break if you want to skip a part, and rejoin the next segment you want to be part of.

Pre-registration is required to receive a secure link to all 5 of our services; it will be available after September 1st.

When you register, you will be able to provide the names of those you want to remember when we say Kaddish at the end of each service, as well as people you’d like to include in prayers for healing, which will take place during the Torah services of both holy days.  The High Holidays and Yizkor Book Donation Form has more information about the Yizkor service on Monday, September 28th at 12:30 p.m.

Blessings,

Rabbi Maurice Harris
