5772 High Holidays

This year’s High Holiday theme is Security and Jewish Responses to the Idea of Security. Reb Donna asks that we set aside some quiet time to think about and write down what feels most secure and what feels least secure in our lives right now.

Some questions to consider:
  • Would your answers have been the same at this time last year?
  • Are you concerned about personal security?
  • If currently you’re trying to secure a living for yourself and/or your family, how would you describe to yourself how you generally think and talk about it?
  • Are you at a life stage where you’re considering how to secure a reputation for yourself, maybe beyond your lifetime?
  • Would your definition of security include the idea of national security? global security?
  • At this season, our tradition expects us to commit to change something in ourselves before the High Holidays come around again in 5773. Is the change you have in mind in any way related to security?
In addition to our engaging and participatory services, we'll have challah and apples and honey on erev Rosh Hashanah, a potluck and Tashlich walk the next day to Community Park North, afternoon workshops between the end of the Yom Kippur morning service and the reading of the Book of Jonah, and Havdallah before we break the fast with a delicious communal potluck dinner.

String of Pearls welcomes guests to all High Holiday services and events. Although we do not require tickets, we do ask for a minimum donation of $136 for an individual and $300 for a family. If you plan to join us, please complete the donation form and mail to the address on the form by September  20, 2011. You are also welcome to submit names of loved ones for our Yom Kippur Yizkor booklet.

All services will be at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton, 50 Cherry Hill Road, Princeton, just off 206.
